Recorder Mania! precedes FREE Star-Spangled Symphony performances
Enjoying virtual rock star status in his native Mexico, Horacio Franco is set to join the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Choir for what promises to be an unforgettable concert experience — Recorder Mania! Performances will unfold at Willson Auditorium on Saturday, February 3rd at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 4th at 2:30pm.
Franco will amaze attendees with his extraordinary virtuosity and flawless musicianship, his stunning sound transporting the audience back to the Baroque era with Vivaldi. Franco’s amazing artistry and contemporary sound will inspire as he plays two recorders simultaneously in Michael Wolpe’s Concerto for Recorder. Beethoven’s joyous 8th Symphony will round out the performance. Tickets range $27–$67 with student discounts available. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door, based on availability.
Horacio Franco is one of the most renowned Mexican artists whose career has developed over four decades. Franco studied at the National Conservatory in Mexico and later at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, obtaining the degree “Soloist Cum Laude.”
Acclaimed by international review as one of the most important recorder players and conductor worldwide, Franco promotes the Early Music movement and founded of the first Baroque Orchestra of Mexico. His repertoire includes Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Contemporary music, including Viceregal repertoire, folk and popular music. Franco has toured around five continents, and has given numerous master classes, participated in education projects and supported vulnerable sectors of society.
Following Saturday, February 10th, the Matthew Savery-conducted Bozeman Symphony will perform two FREE family concerts at 10:30am and 1pm, both at Willson Auditorium. A Star-Spangled Symphony will feature a dazzling array of orchestral selections in this kid-friendly, fun-filled, all-American 50 minutes of music and comedy.
Patriotic favorites will include “Yankee Doodle,” music from John Williams’ The Patriot, Copeland’s “Hoe-down” from Rodeo, “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” popular tunes such as “Beauty and the Beast,” along with “America the Beautiful” and more.
With a hilarious script featuring special guests (George Washington and Betsy Ross among them), gags, and special effects, your family will enjoy plenty of laughs while discovering the wonderment of symphonic music. Before the musical adventure begins, an instrument petting zoo, courtesy of Eckroth Music, will be available. Kids and kids at heart are encouraged to enjoy hands-on learning of the instruments that compose a symphony.
Although both presentations of A Star-Spangled Symphony are free of charge, tickets are required.
