Leisurely walks down Main are becoming a lot more regular, and it’s all uphill from here as summer closes in. While you’re enjoying the changing season, Downtown Bozeman’s Coffee Spot is a great place to check out acoustic sets by local and traveling artists. And of course, their menu offers plenty of delicious caffeinated and other treats to enjoy alongside the tunes! Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
The next Open Mic Night will take place Saturday, May 18th from 6–8pm. Come for an evening of music performed by local musicians. Bring your guitar, sitar, zither, poetry, comedy, or theremin and take a turn up at the mic. Show Bozeman what you’re made of! Individual set lengths depend on the number of musicians who want to play. Sign-ups start at 5:30pm – first come, first served. Be sure to bring your friends and support live music in Bozeman! A modest contribution to the kitty will be divided by participating musicians at the end of the night. The more people who come, the more money in the pot. An additional Open Mic Night is set for Friday, June 7th from 6–8pm.
Portland duo The Groovebirds visit the Coffee Spot on Sunday, May 26th from 1–3pm. Their lyric-based alternative soft rock sound is influenced by those of the 60s, 70s and 80s. The group will entertain will selections from their 2016 debut, Looking in from the Outside, and follow-up, Time It Takes.
Also visiting from Oregon, Eugene Americana duo Gossamer Strings stops in on Friday, May 31st from 6–8pm. The Americana duo plays original music with new feeling, inspired by the long tradition of acoustic music that has come before. Their tunes are meticulously crafted, filled with thoughtful instrumentation on banjo, guitar, and mandolin, interwoven with lyrics sung with clarity and emotion, and tight harmonies blending throughout. The Strings’ live shows create an intimate bond with the audience through love, humor, and heartache. Their self-released album, Lake Toba, is available now.
From Lincoln, Nebraska, indie folk solo act Andrea von Kampen opens up a new month of live music on Sunday, June 2nd from 3–5pm. With an effortless vocal delivery that has been praised as “soulful and worn-in,” the singer/songwriter has released two successful EPs in Another Day and Desdemona, as well as a Christmas collection and live album. She draws inspiration from literature, art, and nature. von Kampen’s debut full-length, Old Country, released in February. She has shared the stage with artists such as Tall Heights, Ira Wolf, Dead Man Winter, The Brother Brothers, Dead Horses, and Darling West, among others.
