Science Inquiry Series: Extreme Living–How to Survive in Boiling Acid, High Sulfide and Low Oxygen Conditions
How did Earth’s earliest forms of life make the transition from a low oxygen environment to a high oxygen one? Dr. Mensur Dlakic, Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology at MSU, will discuss his research on thermophile microbes in Yellowstone National Park which represent some of those earliest life forms, how they thrive in extreme conditions similar to early Earth’s, and what they can tell us about how life adapted to a changing planet.
