Exploring Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale”
May 29 @ 6:00pm
Fantasy, illusion, magic, dreams—they all have a common base in the imagination. Dramatists and actors dwell in this milieu and through their work, invite audience members to do so too.
Shakespeare’s play, “The Winter’s Tale,” soon to be staged by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, leads spectators to a moment in which the power of imagination takes center stage, and theater challenges the audience’s sense of reality. “It is required that you do awake your faith,” says Paulina, and her words resonate with us in that moment, as well as with Leontes. We are captured by the magic of spectacle, as Shakespeare pulls aside the veneer of show and reveals the mechanism behind it.
Join Sharon A. Beehler, PhD Professor of Emeritus of English at MSU and Eva Breneman, MSIP Director of “The Winter’s Tale” for a FREE talk at Country Bookshelf to learn more about the play before watching it live!
