STRFKR
Downtown Bozeman’s Rialto Theater features loads of fantastic live entertainment for music-lovers this and every month. Here’s a look at just a few of the upcoming happenings.
Living legends Hot Tuna will perform on Tuesday, September 10th. Special guests the David Bromberg Quintet will get the music started at 8pm. General admission tickets to this 21+ show are $45. Doors at 7pm.
For more than four decades, Hot Tuna has played, toured and recorded some of the best and most memorable acoustic and electric music ever. Lifelong members, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, formed this spin-off band in the late 60s after performing avidly with Jefferson Airplane. Fusing a variety of rock styles, free rhythmic techniques, and a collected timbre of instruments is what has identified this band over their 40-plus years of playing.
Portland-based indie electro band STRFKR follow on Wednesday, September 11th. Brazilian artist Das Kope will open at 8pm. Tickets to this all-ages show are $25. Doors at 7pm.
STRFKR will bring selections from their fourth album, Being No One, Going Nowhere, a set of darkly glistening dance songs rife with sticky beats, earworming hooks, philosophical heft, and bittersweet beauty. Founder Joshua Hodges crafted the album with the stage in mind. The live setup includes a custom-made LED wall and homemade light show that syncs with the rhythm of the songs (also, the occasional crowd-surfing astronaut and band-in-drag). Following Being No One, STRFKR delivered Vault, a three-album series of previously unreleased material.
Chicago post-rock trio Russian Circles are set for Saturday, September 14th. Abstract modern art rockers FACS will get the music started at 8pm. Tickets to this all-ages show are $16. Doors at 7pm.
While many bands on the louder end of the rock-based instrumental world are content to work within the confines of the crescendos and washed-out timbres laid out by their predecessors, Russian Circles persistently expand their creative boundaries by working with a wider swath of sounds and structures. The band comes to Bozeman following the August release of Blood Year, their brand new album.
Looking ahead, rising country artist Riley Green will take the stage on Friday, September 20th. Nashville singer/songwriter Travis Denning will kick things off at 8pm. Tickets to this all-ages show are $20. VIP packages available. Doors at 7pm.
Growing up in Alabama, Green was raised on the sounds of traditional country, bluegrass, and Southern gospel music. His 2018 EP, In a Truck Right Now, introduced his mixture of outlaw-rebellion and respect for tradition across four self-penned tracks, including his debut No. 1 hit single “There Was This Girl.” Follow-up EP Get That Man a Beer released at the top of summer. Green’s new album, Different ‘Round Here, will be available Sept. 20 featuring lead single “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.”
