Chico Sunday shows feature Chicago blues project, Mandy Rowden
A day trip over to Park County will soon lead to floating the Yellowstone and hiking the Absaroka Bearooth. But until those days come, transition into Montana’s favorite months with a weekend getaway to Chico Hot Springs. With fantastic live entertainment in the Saloon every Friday and Saturday night, you can kick up your feet – and soak them too. Here’s a look at what’s headed to the Paradise Valley watering hole.
The Fossils are back with a pair of performances on Friday and Saturday, May 17th and 18th. Known around town for their authentic hippie music, The band guarantees a rockin’ good time. The members have been acquainted for years and are connected by their love of music. The Fossils are Scott Boehler (harmonica), Rich Ruggles (keyboard), Jerry Mullen (guitar), and Donny Scott (drums).
Motown meets the Chicago blues when The Good, the Bad & the Blues visits Chico with a Sunday show on May 19th at 8pm. The band’s sound is a rich mixture of the new and deep-rooted past of gospel, blues, soul and funk. This blending of influences makes for a dynamic experience that touches each of their audience’s senses. Their self-titled album is available now.
The MAX is back at Chico on Friday and Saturday, May 24th and 25th. The popular band has entertained and delighted audiences nationwide since the mid-80s, calling Montana home since 1993. With Kyle Brenner (guitar), Mike Young (drums), and Bobb Clanton (bass), The MAX plays spot-on renditions of a wide variety of choice danceable rock n’ roll covers and has two original albums, Shadows in the Shade and Vinyl Valentine. The MAX has opened for Styx, REO Speedwagon, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
Another Sunday show, this time featuring Mandy Rowden, is set for May 26th at 8pm. Rowden is an Austin-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who’s been compared to Lucinda Williams, Kim Richey, and Stevie Nicks, to name a few. Her latest album, When That Day Comes, is a collection of warm, engaging songs about life and loss. Its easy pace and vulnerable lyrics roll out a welcome mat of raw, emotional accessibility revealing a world textured by hurt and hope alike.
Russ Nasset & the Revelators will perform their brand of rockabilly country and blues on Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st. Led by the father and son duo of Russ and Sam Nasset, the Revelators have been dishing out their hard-driving repertoire of rockabilly, honky tonk, and rock n’ roll since the late ‘90s, playing over a hundred concerts annually across the Pacific Northwest. At a live show, you’d better be ready to dance, because when the Revelators take the stage, they’re gonna set the floor on fire! Expect to hear unique versions of classic country and rockabilly songs, original originals, and lots of stuff you probably think is original.
