Baroque Music Montana will present “Hymn of Thanksgiving” as part of its ‘Beyond Baroque Series’ with a local performance this month as part of its regional tour. The event will take place Friday, June 19th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. The intimate showcase begins at 7:30pm.
On the heels of last season’s “Fabulous Fanny” program, the gut-string quartet returns for a dive into perhaps the most revered of the entire string quartet repertoire, the late Beethoven String Quartets. While Beethoven’s late quartets are so progressive they are often programmed with cutting edge contemporary repertoire, the performance will explore these masterpieces from BMM’s speciality of an earlier lens.

Composed after he recovered from a near-fatal illness, Beethoven described this quartet as “a prayer from a convalescent to the Deity.” Performed on period instruments by internationally acclaimed string musicians Carrie Krause and Andrew Mcintosh, violin, Maureen Murchie on viola and cellist Michael Unterman.
Admission for the Bozeman performance is $32 with student-discounted tickets available. Additional performances will be held in Big Timber, Lewistown, Helena and Billings. Ticketing information for the local concerts, as well as other regional performances, is available at www.baroquemusicmontana.com.
Baroque Music Montana specializes in chamber music inspired by history. The musician roster rotates based on desired instrumentation for repertoire. Concerts are held in intimate spaces, for which the music was originally intended, and often on period instruments. Using historical instruments and referencing original manuscripts, iconography and historical writing fuels Baroque Music Montana’s commitment to the music and inspires fresh interpretation. Rather than recreating something old, the aim is to make each performance of this day, of this space, existing because of these musicians and this audience. •
