For two nights only, Bozeman Actors Theatre presents an exclusive staged reading of A Doll’s House, Henrik Ibsen’s classic play and one of the pioneering works of modern drama. The stagings begin at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, May 3rd and 4th, in the intimate setting of the historic Story Mansion.
The story of its central character, Nora Helmer, who rejects the life of her smothering marriage, shocked audiences of the late 1800s and opened new horizons for drama of the next century. Directed by Gretchen Minton, the cast of William Callahan, Emily Jones, Sasha Kostyrko, Erik Pearson, Ray Schultz, and Kalen Watson will reveal the genius of a landmark play while setting up BAT’s staging of Nora’s story 15 years later (A Doll’s House, Part 2: see below).
Opening May 9th, A Doll’s House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath will follow with six performances at the Story Mansion through May 18th. All shows begin at 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
In the final scene of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, Nora Helmer makes the shocking decision to leave her husband and children and begin a life on her own. This climactic event – when Nora slams the door on everything in her life – instantly propelled world drama into the modern age. In A Doll’s House, Part 2, many years have passed since her exit. Now there’s a knock on that same door. Nora has returned. But why? And what will it mean for those she left behind? Kari Doll directs Kevin Asselin, Lauren Eva Lane, Rhonda Smith, and Cara Wilder in Bozeman Actors’ production of the play that took Broadway by storm in 2017 on its way to 8 Tony Award nominations.
A Doll’s House tickets, for the reading and Part 2, are $20 for general admission or $10 for students (with ID) and are ONLY available in advance at www.bozemanactorstheatre.org/tickets. Seating is limited.
