Baptiste Power Yoga studio opens in Bozeman’s Cannery District
The Practice, Montana’s first Baptiste Power Yoga Affiliate studio, has landed in Bozeman’s Cannery District and they’re changing how locals think about yoga.
Baptiste Power Yoga is one of the world’s most practiced styles of power yoga. The room is heated to 95 degrees which, with added humidity, makes for a welcome tropical experience – especially during Montana’s long winter months. This warmth helps the muscles and adds to the overall intensity of the class. But it’s not just The Practice’s warm, bright room that’s been drawing people in. It’s what’s happening inside that’s causing this budding community to grow exponentially since opening in January.
Many students are first drawn to Baptiste Power Yoga for the physical workout. “It’s a great sweat!” says Practice co-owner Molly Casto. “You are guaranteed to increase muscle, cardiovascular fitness and overall flexibility in your body. And you don’t have to be overly flexible or strong to access this practice. The classes are challenging no matter what your fitness level but there’s plenty of room for modification or taking it up a notch if and when you’re ready. We invite people to come as they are.”
The studio offers props with teachers ready to show the class how they’re used. The physical workout, however, is just the tip of the iceberg. “Baptiste Yoga is about altering our beliefs about what’s possible in the areas of life that matter most to us,” Casto adds.
The intention is basic: move through a challenging but accessible physical workout that makes you sweat, builds whole-body strength and increases stamina, flexibility and balance. Teachers cue breathing and invite practitioners to become present with their physical body and own any emotions, triggers or thoughts that may arise.
Baptiste yoga allows the typical thoughts – anxiety, impatience, frustration, doubt, etc. – to pass through while deep breathing keeps participants rooted in the experience. Over time, the practice of becoming less attached to these emotions grows easier and easier. Eventually, you will not only feel healthier, stronger and more vibrant, but be able to take this ability – to have thoughts rather than be ruled by them – off the yoga mat and into every facet of life. You’ll begin to realize you actually can do the things you once said you couldn’t.
Give Baptiste a try (new clients receive a full week for just $25) or simply stop by for a class. Regular drop-ins are $20 but discounted package rates are available. On a budget? No problem! Drop in for a $5 community class, offered twice weekly.
