Affecting Diane, emotional Inside Out precede MT Shakes’ Cyrano at Ellen
Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre is set to present a screening of independent drama Diane on Friday, March 6th. Featuring Mary Kay Place in the titular role, Diane fills her days helping others and desperately attempting to bond with her drug-addicted son. As these pieces of her existence begin to fade, she finds herself confronting memories she’d sooner forget than face. Rolling Stone calls the film “a shattering portrait of resilience.” The screening begins at 7:30pm. All seats $9.50.
A family film follows on Sunday, March 8th when animated feature Inside Out screens at 2pm. Disney and Pixar’s box office hit is set in the mind of a young girl named Riley. Her five personified emotions – Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust – try to lead her through life as she and her parents adjust to their new surroundings after moving from Minnesota to San Francisco. Winner of the 88th Academy Award for ‘Best Animated Feature,’ the film features an all-star cast including Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, Mindy Kaling and Lewis Black. Rolling Stone wrote, “An unmissable film triumph that raises the bar on what animation can do.” Tickets are only $4 at the door.
Opening March 20th, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will present a spring staging of Cyrano de Bergerac at the Ellen. A gifted duelist and dispenser of wit, Cyrano is in love with the beautiful Roxanne. However, his shockingly large nose makes him too insecure to think she could ever love him. Roxanne falls for the handsome Christian and Cyrano endeavors to help him woo her. With dazzling swordplay, dizzying wit and deep romance, Cyrano will delight and devastate.
The play stars Tony-nominated Broadway, film and television actor Jeffrey McCarthy, a cast of many Shakespeare in the Parks favorites including Aila Peck, Joe Faifer, Riley O’Toole, Erik Pearson and Kalen Watson, among a host of local stars.
Performances of Edmond Rostand’s swashbuckling romance will be held weekends through March 29th. Friday and Saturday evening shows start at 7:30pm. Saturday and Sunday matinees begin at 2pm. Tickets range $21.25 to $41.25.
A special preview event on March 19th will precede the regular performances. The evening will feature catered reception with two complimentary drinks, live music and the show, followed by a mix and mingle with the cast. Events begin at 6:30pm. Additional details available through the Ellen website.
