ACL airings feature soul, rock n’ roll & eclectic country
Austin City Limits is keeping the show rolling as working musicians continue to find innovative ways to share their art. Though music fans missing the thrill of live performances will have to hang in there, episodes of the popular program are airing on MontanaPBS to serve as a hold-over until venue stages are lit once again. Here’s who’s featured this month.
First up is John Legend & the Roots on Saturday, November 7th. Savor a special encore of protest soul classics from John Legend & the Roots’ Grammy-winning LP Wake Up! Originally broadcast in 2011, the hour-long episode features “Wake Up Everybody,” “Compared to What” and “Ordinary People.” The episode airs at 11pm.
Jackie Venson and Mavis Staples follow on Saturday, November 14th with special guest Bonnie Raitt. Enjoy innovative Austin rock & roll from Jackie Venson, plus a vintage 2012 performance from soul/gospel legend Mavis Staples and friend Bonnie Raitt. Venson plays songs from Vintage Machine, while Staples performs songs from across her long career. The episode airs at 10:35pm.
The Mavericks are set for November 21st. Thrill to an hour featuring the eclectic country rock band, performing hits and songs from their acclaimed all-Spanish album En Español. The episode airs at 11:05pm.
