The 2016 Montana Masters State Championship Swim Meet is set to take place between Saturday, March 19th and Sunday the 20th at MSU’s Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center. The annual swim meet is the biggest of the year for masters swimmers (age 18+) in Montana. It is held in a 25-yard pool every spring, and rotates around the state. The last time this meet was held at MSU was 2011. This is an open meet, so no qualifying times are required, and you do not have to live in Montana to participate. You do need to be a member of U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) to participate, but one-event registrations, which would cover both days of the event, are available for swimmers who do not wish to become a full-year USMS member. Historically, 40-50% of the members of the Montana LMSC participate in this event every year. Whether you are new to competition or a veteran, this meet is a lot of fun to participate in! Registration fee is $40 per swimmer. USMS is a national membership-operated nonprofit organization that provides membership benefits to nearly 60,000 Masters swimmers across the country. These benefits include insurance, SWIMMER magazine, sanctioned events, and many others. USMS and its 52 Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSCs) provide direct support to more than 1,500 Masters Swimming clubs and workout groups. Structure and organization of USMS programs vary and are driven by factors such as pool availability, instructor or coach availability, community support, and finances. The majority of locations offering Masters Swimming programs have coaches on deck. Coaches write workouts and provide feedback and instruction.
