I’ll Make a Man Out of You: Redefining Strong Female Characters
SUB Ballroom A, Montana State University
Anita Sarkeesian, one of Time magazine’s 100 most important people for 2015, and prominent feminist video blogger and public speaker, will visit MSU to present the Shannon and Frances Weatherly Memorial Lecture. Join us on March 2nd –doors open at 6:00 p.m. and lecture will begin at 6:30– in SUB Ballroom A on the MSU campus for this free event brought to you by the Shannon and Frances Weatherly Memorial Lecture Fund, as well as the following Montana State University entities: Department of Computer Science; Jake Jabbs College of Business and Entrepreneurship; College of Engineering; College of Agriculture; College of Letters and Science; College of Nursing; College of Education, Health and Human Development; Office of Activities and Engagement; Diversity Awareness Office; VOICE Center, and The Leadership Institute.
Ms. Sarkeesian’s lecture will give the audience an exciting opportunity to learn about gender roles in videogames and other popular media.

Women, Men, and Reproductive Rights in Romania

This talk, by medical anthropologist and linguist, Cristina Pop, visiting professor in Sociology and Anthropology at MSU, examines the conspicuous absence of Romanian men from the realm of reproduction during the 1970s and 1980s Socialist pro-natalism. Specifically, Cristina will look at how the authoritarian state capitalized on traditional patriarchy to enact a ‘patriarchy in power’ that eventually disempowered men in relation to their female partners. She will also scrutinize the avatars of modern patriarchy in present-day Romania.

Join Jen Euell and Kelsey Mahoney from Women’s Foundation of Montana for this discussion of the economic status of women in Montana. They will also address how Montana would benefit from more women in leadership, and what you can do to help women in the work force.
