Yellowstone Ballet Company presents the “Boots & Ballet Gala ~ Classic Meets the West” with two local performances this month. The first will be held at 7:30pm on Saturday, June 24th at Bozeman’s Willson Auditorium, and at 4:30pm on Sunday, June 25th at Paradise Valley’s Owl’s Rest Event Barn, just outside Livingston. The events feature an international cast of professional dancers from Cuba, Chile, the United States and the Royal Danish Ballet of Copenhagen.
Fiona Lee, who received her early training at the Yellowstone Ballet Academy in Livingston, went on to train at the School of American Ballet in New York City at age 14. She currently dances with the world renowned Royal Danish Ballet. She will set her Balanchine style, western ballet piece, “Tumbleweed Two-Step” for the event. Ms. Lee received a grant to choreograph and set the Montana inspired piece in Copenhagen last summer. She is excited to bring her work to Montana this June. Other western pieces include “Yippie Yi Yo” and “Don’t Fence Me In” with music by the Paradise Players.
Classical pieces include rarely scene excerpts from Aram Khachaturian’s Spartacus, Alexander Glazunov’s Raymonda, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Spring Waters, Adolphe Adam’s Le Corsaire and other famous pas de deuxs.
Dress is western casual. Cravats, jabots, bandannas, bolos, ascots, kerchiefs, buckled belts, plaid shirts, cowboy boots, jeans and prairie skirts are welcome.
Tickets are available online at www.YellowstoneBallet.info. Children ages 12 and under admitted free with an adult ticket purchase for the Willson Auditorium show only.
