The annual drive helps the non-commercial station in its mission to send signals throughout southwestern Montana 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
BOZEMAN – KGLT-FM 91.9, Montana State University’s campus radio station, will celebrate its 50th year on air during its annual two-week fund drive set April 1-14.
KGLT station manager Ellen King-Rodgers said that the non-commercial station reaches communities across the southwestern Montana, bringing listeners into one large community. KGLT’s signals can be found on the FM dial at 91.9 and 97.1 in Bozeman, 89.5 in Livingston, 89.1 in East Helena, 90.5 in Big Timber and 107.1 in Mammoth Hot Springs.
“This 50th anniversary fund drive helps KGLT reach its annual need for operations funding. The station provides many services to communities who otherwise might not have access to grass-roots community information,” King-Rodgers said. “Locally-produced programming — like the Montana Medicine Show providing on-air history vignettes, Chrysti the Wordsmith offering daily derivations of common words and phrases — are just some of the many shows and services provided.”
King-Rodgers said this year’s fundraising goal is $200,000. Incentives for donations include T-shirts, hats, mugs, totes and more. Donations may be made by calling the station’s request line at 994-4492 or a toll-free at 800-254-5458. Listeners can also pledge on the station’s website, kglt.net.
KGLT’s studios and offices are located on the third floor of MSU’s Strand Union Building, where its staff trains student and community volunteers to present on-air programming 24-hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, King-Rodgers said that since 1968, KGLT has amassed one of the largest music collections of any radio station, commercial or non-commercial, in the country.
