Verge Theater is delighted to present a stage reading of Chicago from playwright Maureen Watkins at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture. Performances will be held Friday and Saturday, February 21st and 22nd. Both begin at 7pm.
The original gritty, sharp-witted play inspired the legendary musical. This is your chance to experience the story in its rawest, most powerful form – without the razzle-dazzle, but with all the biting humor, moral gray areas, and bold, flawed characters that make this tale unforgettable.
What makes this project so special is its focus on humanity over spectacle, digging deep into characters like the cunning Roxie Hart, the relentless Velma Kelly, and the slick Billy Flynn. Set in the 1920s, this satirical tale of scandal and fame feels as relevant today as ever, offering an evening of compelling storytelling and thought-provoking drama.
And coming soon to Verge… Miscast: A Cabaret with a Twist is set for March 28th–29th, followed by You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (Revised) April 24th–May 4th, and the return of the New Works Fest May 30th–June 1st. See host website for additional details.
Tickets for Chicago are available for purchase now for a suggested price of $10 with a “Pay What You Wish” option. Visit www.vergetheater.com for reservations and further information about educational opportunities for aspiring thespians. •
