Under the direction of Tessa Welsch, Verge Theater continues to showcase local theater with a special three-week run at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture. Tickets are now available for Stephen Karam’s The Humans, with performances set for July 28th–29th, August 3rd–6th and 11th–13th. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7pm, with two Sunday matinees to follow at 3:30pm. Note: the Friday, August 11th presentation will begin at 8pm following the summer Art Walk.
Breaking with tradition, Erik Blake has brought his Pennsylvania family to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter’s apartment in lower Manhattan. As darkness falls outside the ramshackle pre-war duplex, eerie things start to go bump in the night and the heart and horrors of the Blake clan are exposed.
The Humans, a one-act play, opened on Broadway in 2016 to critical acclaim. A film adaptation written and directed by Karam released in 2021. The film was likewise praised by critics and served as Karam’s directorial debut. The Verge presentation is appropriate for ages 12 and up. The show contains mild profanity and adult themes.
Tickets for The Humans are available for purchase on a “Pay What You Wish” basis. Visit www.vergetheater.com for reservations and further information about educational opportunities for aspiring thespians. •
