Verge Theater is delighted to present two nights of kids theater with The Twelve Dancing Princesses at the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture. Performances will be held May 9th and 10th. Friday show begins at 6pm, with a 2pm matinee on Saturday.
The classic fairy tale tells the story of twelve princesses who mysteriously wear out their shoes every night, even though their father, the king, keeps them locked in their chambers. Despite his efforts, no one can uncover the secret of their nightly escapades. The king offers a reward to anyone who can solve the mystery. Many try and fail until a humble soldier, aided by an enchanted cloak of invisibility and advice from an old woman, discovers the truth.
Each night, the princesses sneak away to a magical underground kingdom where they dance with twelve princes. The soldier reveals their secret, breaking the enchantment and winning the king’s favor – and the hand of one of the princesses. This timeless tale weaves themes of curiosity, bravery, and magic into a captivating adventure.
Following May 16th–18th, teen theater presents William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. The Emerson performances begin at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, with additional 2pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday.
This timeless comedy promises to delight audiences of all ages with its whimsical blend of romance, humor and fantasy. Set in an enchanted forest where fairies meddle in mortal affairs, the play explores love in all its unpredictable glory. Lovers quarrel, identities are mistaken, and a group of amateur actors stumble their way into theatrical hilarity – all under the mischievous eye of Oberon and Titania, the fairy king and queen.
Directed by Jess Lee, Verge’s teen production offers a fresh, modern twist while honoring the poetry and charm of Shakespeare’s classic. Featuring a talented cast of local teens, this production will transport you to a world where dreams and reality blur.
