Livingston’s Blue Slipper Theatre presents the next production of its current season with Michael Weller’s Moonchildren this month. Performances are set for April 10th–19th. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30pm, with Sunday matinees to follow at 3pm. The local production is directed by Tessa Welsch.
The character-driven stage play captures the restless spirit of a group of recent college graduates living together in a communal New York City apartment during the mid-1960s. Set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing cultural landscape, the story follows their day-to-day lives as they drift between late-night conversations, artistic aspirations, and uncertain plans for the future.

Through a series of intimate, overlapping scenes, the play explores their shifting relationships, intellectual debates, and emotional growing pains. Friendships blur into romances, ideals clash with insecurities, and each character grapples with questions of identity, purpose, and independence in a world that no longer feels stable or clearly defined.
Blending humor with quiet poignancy, Moonchildren reflects the tension between the era’s countercultural optimism and the sobering realities of adulthood. As their youthful idealism begins to give way to doubt and compromise, the play offers a vivid and deeply human portrait of a generation standing at the threshold between possibility and responsibility.
Tickets for Moonchildren are $20 or $15 for students, seniors and military (plus fees) and are available at www.blueslipper.org. Seating at the Blue Slipper, located at 113 E Callender St, is limited. Please call (406) 222-7720 for more information. •
