Timeless tale of tuneful von Trapps comes to life with Ellen production
The curtain is set to raise once again at Downtown Bozeman’s Ellen Theatre with a musical presentation of a stage classic in August. A premier production company in the Gallatin Valley, Montana TheatreWorks presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music with multiple performances at the historic theater beginning August 5th and running through Aug. 21st.
Guest artists Maria Valdes and Branch Fields bring their extraordinary talents center stage to the Ellen. Fields made his Broadway debut in 2008’s Tony Award-winning South Pacific, also understudying the lead role of Emile de Becque. Valdes, starring in Rigoletto, was dubbed by The New York Times as a “first-rate singing actress and a perfectly charming Gilda.” See them both, together on stage as Maria and Captain von Trapp in one of the most beloved shows of all time, a classic celebration of music, family and perseverance.
Featured songs include “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Maria,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Lonely Goatherd,” “Edelweiss” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” Enjoy The Sound of Music – and your heart will sing once more!
Mary Jo Ludin directs the production featuring Musical Director and Conductor Stefan Stern. This is a two-hour-plus production and is recommended for those 5 and up.
Friday and Saturday performances of The Sound of Music begin at 7:30pm, followed by a 3pm Sunday matinee. Two additional shows will be held Thursdays, Aug. 11th and 18th at 7:30pm. Tickets to this classic production range $37 to $48.
Coming soon to the Ellen: comic Paula Poundstone, Broadway performer Shayna Steele and a performance by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Wine, beer and concessions will be sold in the lobby one hour before each event. Ticketing and further information about these and other upcoming happenings is available at www.theellentheatre.org. For additional inquiries, call the box office at (406) 585-5885. •
