There’s plenty left to discover w/ The Gallatin Valley Land Trust
The Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) continues to present its 2019 Discovery Walks, a trail exploration series, through the end of June. Join GVLT volunteers to walk, talk, and explore on the trails while meeting locals and learning something new along the way. These one-hour, guided, educational walks are totally FREE and open to the public. Volunteers and local experts will be hosting short talks and activities during the walks. Here’s a look at some of the upcoming outings.
A Nature Journaling Walk opens up the month on Saturday, June 1st. Stop, look around, and listen. Bring a journal and Toyia Hatten will help you write, draw and reflect on the nature that surrounds you as she introduces participants to the practice of nature journaling. This walk meets at Tuckerman Park off Goldenstein Lane at 10am.
Following on Monday, June 3rd is a Wildflower Walk. Enjoy a stroll through open fields of the Mt. Ellis Trail to find and identify the wildflowers that bloom in the beginning of June with an enthusiast and expert. An additional Wildflower Walk will take place Friday, June 7th. These walks meet at the end of Mt. Ellis Lane off Bozeman Trail Road at 10am.
Roots Family Collaborative’s Fresh Air Mamas host a Toddling Tuesdays Family Walk on June 4th. Be a part of a welcoming community of mothers and explore the trails around Bozeman while making connections, feeling the benefits of nature, and becoming empowered together. Bring your toddler and go at your own pace. An additional Fresh Air Mamas Walk follows on Tuesday, June 11th. The June 4th walk meets at the Dinosaur Playground in Gallatin Regional Park. The June 11th walk meets at the Drinking Horse Trailhead. Both at 9:45am.
Check out a Hiking & Backcountry Skills Walk on Wednesday, June 5th. Join Griffin Lawrence, backcountry guide, will share all you need to know to backpack or hike in the backcountry including safety, what to bring and how to be prepared. This walk meet at the Drinking Horse trailhead at 6:30pm.
Take a Bozeman Sculpture Park Tour on Thursday, June 6th. Join a Board Member from Gallatin Art Crossing and learn about the unique sculptures and artists that line the Gallagator Trail from Bozeman Public Library to Peets Hill. This walk meets in front of the Library at 5:30pm.
A avian-inspired Birding Walk is set for Saturday, June 8th. Have you heard any chirping birds this spring? Join Vickie Saab, wildlife biologist, to spot and identify some of our feathered friends above. This walk meets at Tuckerman Park off Goldenstein Lane at 7am.
Montana Outdoor Science School (MOSS) presents a Sensational Senses Kids Walk on Monday, June 10th. Notice anything funny about this trail? Put your senses to the test on an unnatural trail, enjoy a familiar place from a new perspective, and discover where to search for unique and exciting treasures! This walk meets at the picnic area on the south side of Bozeman Pond Park at 9:30am.
Explore the Physical Geography of the Gallatin Valley on Wednesday, June 12th. Bill Locke will help you see the Valley landscape through a new lens as he shares his knowledge of the geography and geology of the region. This walk meets at the base of Peets Hill at 5:30pm.
Walk with a Health Provider on Thursday, June 13th. Take a walk for your health! Join a provider from Bozeman Health for a conversation about how to lead an outdoor healthy life. This walk meets at the base of Peets Hill at 5:30pm.
MOSS returns on Friday, June 14th with a Summer Survival Kids Walk. Prepare for a great adventure by learning compass basics, survival necessities, and preparation skills to stay safe and have fun all summer long! This walk meets at Glen Lake Rotary Park (formerly the E Gallatin Rec area), near the picnic tables by the bathrooms, at 9:30am.
Finally, In Focus Astronomy hosts a Constellation Night Walk on Saturday, June 15th. Join Space Naturalists for a space-themed night hike! Learn about the constellations, their mythology, and the story of how their stars formed in space. A short stargazing session with a telescope will follow. Please bring your own headlamp, preferably with a red light setting to preserve night vision. This walk meet at the base of Peets Hill at 9:30pm.
