Bozeman Symphony invites audiences to experience A Spiritual Awakening: Verdi, Simon, Ives, an inspirational concert celebrating the essence of spirituality through the rich tapestry of American music, featuring the Symphonic Choir and conductor Norman Huynh. Performances will be held May 17th and 18th. Saturday show begins at 7:30pm, followed by a closing performance on Sunday at 2:30pm. Both will be held at the Willson Auditorium in Downtown Bozeman. Pre-concert talks are scheduled to begin one hour prior to each performance.
The Bozeman Symphonic Choir will share the stage with the orchestra, performing one of Giuseppe Verdi’s most beloved compositions, the powerful Te Deum from his Quattro pezzi sacri. This ancient Latin hymn is a dynamic expression of praise to God, frequently performed at Roman Catholic masses and significant celebrations.
The concert will further enchant attendees with Carlos Simon’s captivating Four Black American Dances, which illuminates the importance of dance as a vital form of social connection, ritual, celebration and worship within Black Pentecostal church communities.
Closing the concert will be Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 2, a masterful work that celebrates American symphonic traditions while playfully intertwining hymns within an innovative and whimsical musical framework, challenging conventional European classical forms.
Performances are May 17th and 18th at the Willson Auditorium. Individual tickets are available for purchase online at www.bozemansymphony.org or by phone at (406) 585-9774. Tickets at the door based on availability. Adult tickets begin at $30 with student-discounted tickets available.
