Local youth venture back to the days of Shakespeare and his “contemporaries” with a hysterical, tune-filled show this month. Livingston’s Shane Lalani Center for the Arts presents a Teen Theatre production of John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick’s 2015 musical Something Rotten! from May 3rd through May 19th.
Set in the 1590s, the play is a hilarious history-twisting musical. Brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play – though they find themselves stuck in the shadow of “The Bard.” Out of desperation, they set out to write the world’s first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self (and all that jazz.)
Something Rotten! runs weekends from May 3rd to May 19th. Performances take place in the Dulcie Theatre. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with Sunday matinees to follow at 3 pm. Tickets are $23 for adults, $17 for seniors/students/veterans, and $11 for youth 17 & under. Make reservations through www.theshanecenter.org or call the box office at (406) 222-1420.
