It’s that time of year where events begin to move indoors as we await the turn of the season. A popular lecture series returns this month.
Co-sponsored by nonprofit org Hopa Mountain, Gallatin Valley Friends of the Sciences’ inquiry series returns on Wednesday, September 24th. “How the Sun Misbehaves at Solar Maximum” will begin at 6:30pm. It will be held in the Community Room at Bozeman Public Library.
What are the implications – and perils – of circling an active star for our technological society? Dr. Charles Kankelborg, MSU Professor of Physics, will lead the audience on a tour of the 11-year solar cycle of activity, currently at its maximum, and describe its beauty and its hazards against the backdrop of his own journey of solar exploration.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A period.
The informative talks are presented in person on select Wednesdays. The presentations are free and open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Face masks are recommended but not required.
Find Gallatin Valley Friends of the Sciences on social media or visit www.gallatinscience.org for additional details and information about future talks. The nonprofit was established in 2017 to explore cutting edge science topics, their latest developments, and their relevance to society. •
