No matter what sort of music you’re into, the Filling Station regularly offers shows by local musicians and traveling acts. The concerts showcase artists from a variety of genres, welcoming diverse audiences to the north Bozeman space with performances held throughout the week. Here’s who worked their way onto the first calendar of the new year.
Bombshell Nightlight opens 2023 with a Tiny Iota & Bluest-assisted show on January 6th at 9pm. With vibes similar to Modest Mouse, alt-J and Radiohead, the band performs in support of their latest release, Blue Heron Above Me. Their clean, twangy guitars and mellow beats combine with keyboard harmonies and thoughtful, uplifting lyrics that capture the imagination of their audience.
Mint! follow on Jan. 7th with help from Come Back K at 9pm. The local funk-rock band has taken the Bozeman scene by storm over the last few years. Order up a pint of your favorite local brew and support this local talent!
On Friday the 13th, Jacob Rountree & the Somethings perform their brand of hypnotic folk. Openers Salt & Shadow kick off the music at 8pm. The alternative folk-indie rock group offers a very dynamic sound. Best described as a passionate and relatable, multi-dimensional act with poetically introspective lyrics, a unique finger picking style, perfectly placed percussive hits, haunting melodies and dream-like effects.
Mint! return as opening support for Rocky Fall on Jan 14th at 9pm. Prepare for an evening of ravin’, rockin’ sounds from this local underground trio.
Enjoy a night of river rock and mountain Americana with Boot Juice on Jan. 16th at 8pm. The seven-piece floats from bluesy rock n’ roll to progressive bluegrass, inspired by the likes of Railroad Earth and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Filth & Foul presents SwizZy B on Jan 19th at 7pm. The Puerto Rican hip-hop recording artist and emcee visits Bozeman as part of his “Ragers Only Tour” in support of his EP of the same name. The versatility in his songwriting gives him the advantage of putting multiple styles and techniques to the test, from complex rhyme patterns to catchy hooks, while adding emotion-filled content in every bar.
Local songwriter Peter King follows Jan 20th at 9pm. The Dead Yellers’ frontman gears his original lyrics around the human condition, love, war and self-control. His originals tell the story of honest, blue collar life in a small town. King’s influences range from the lonesome classic country sound to that of a DIY punk rock group.
Taking the stage Jan. 27th is Jazz Cabbage at 9pm. New to the local scene, the jazz-funk fusion ensemble puts on one helluva show. Come check them out!
Benn & Abel close out the month on Jan. 28th at 9pm. The new age Americana band from Bozeman plays a mixture of originals and covers, with a new album in the works. This show is free of admission.
