What’s better than good skiing? Skiing for a good cause.
Come Dec. 11 to support Big Sky Resort’s Carving for Cans, a regional food drive for the Gallatin Valley Food Bank and Big Sky Community Food Bank. Skiers and snowboarders who bring 20 cans of food to Big Sky Resort on Dec. 11 will receive a full-day $39 lift ticket.
Big Sky Resort season pass holders who bring 20 cans of food will receive a $20 Nature Zipline Voucher valid through Dec. 23.
Big Sky Resort won’t be accepting turkeys as in years past so as to fill the food bank’s shelves with nonperishable food items heading into the holiday season.
This is the Big Sky Community Food Bank’s largest food drive each year.
The food drive began in 2009 at Moonlight Basin. Big Sky Resort continued to host the food drive following the acquisition. Since 2013, Big Sky Resort’s food drive has generated more than 100,000 pounds of food for the regional food banks.
Last year alone, the food drive generated 20,672 pounds of food.
The holidays are the busiest times at the regional food banks. Big Sky Community Food Bank, which serves the Big Sky area, helps about 150 people a week.
The Gallatin Valley Food Bank, which is located in Bozeman but serves the entire county, gives away 2.99 tons of food a day to people who need it – and about 2 million pounds of food a year.
Any can of food is welcome, but with the winter season upon us, the food banks go through a lot of soup, chili and peanut butter.
