Revealing profile of local cattleman screens at Shane
The Livingston Film Series presents Cynthia Matty-Huber’s short documentary For Love of the Land at 7pm on Sunday, May 8th in the Dulcie Theatre at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts in Livingston.
To local rancher John Hoiland, cattle ranching is a way of life. A way of life that is disappearing forever. Agriculture is a large economy in Montana, but the number of small ranches has dropped more than 50% over the past half-century. John is fighting for his way of life, his family name, and the tradition of land stewardship of the small independent rancher. At ninety years old, without children to inherit the ranch, he is forced to ask himself the question: What will become of the land and his legacy?
Director Cynthia Matty-Huber will introduce the film, and John Hoiland will say a few words afterwards. It happens to be John’s birthday – join us for cake in the lobby afterwards!
This is the Livingston Film Series’ sixth season of screening independent features, documentaries, local films, and vintage classics – absolutely free – on the second Sunday of every month in the Dulcie Theatre at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts. Concessions are available before the show. Doors open at 6:30pm, with screenings to follow at 7pm. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
