The Montana State University Wonderlust lifelong learning organization will offer a public presentation at the Livingston Park County Library on Thursday, November 8th called “Over Our Heads: Introduction to the World of Satellites.”
John Elwell, a long-time space researcher, will explore many aspects of satellites. For instance, how can the GPS receiver in our phones and cars tell us where we are, anytime, anywhere? Which satellites are taking pictures of our homes from outer space? And can spy satellites really help us keep watch over “bad guys?”
Elwell spent his career in the space business, building instruments and managing programs for space research at the Space Dynamics Laboratory at Utah State University. He worked on different missions that studied the Earth, our solar system and the universe. He holds electrical engineering degrees from the University of Utah and Utah State.
The talk will be held from 6–8pm. There is no charge to attend, but registration is requested as seating is limited. Visit www.montana.edu/wonderlust and click “view all offerings” to register.
MSU Wonderlust, a lifelong learning organization, is part of MSU Academic Technology and Outreach. Wonderlust presentations at the Livingston library are free and open to the public thanks to sponsorship by the Friends of the Livingston Park County Public Library.
