Poolside performers help usher in June at Norris Hot Springs
The season is in full swing at Norris Hot Springs, with the grill open, the campground welcoming guests, and the pool ready for soakers every day but Tuesday from 10am–10pm. Early Yellowstone visitors have begun to arrive with questions about the historic wooden pool, the amazing water, and the delicious organic food served daily at the No LoOse Dogs Saloon and 50 Mile Grill.
The 50 Mile Grill is so named because of the commitment to bring you the freshest, locally-sourced food available. Proteins are obtained locally and don’t make any long trips through factories or warehouses – the food you eat is as fresh as you’ll find anywhere. Salad greens are also always organic and local, and soon Norris’ garden will begin to deliver its bounty directly to your plate.
Come for a meal, soak, and a beverage – then stay for the best in live acoustic music on the Poolside Stage every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening starting at 7pm.
The weekend gets off to a fine start on Friday, June 8th with Half Pelican. The duo plays cosmic acoustic grooves influenced by Appalachian, Celtic, Scandinavian, bluegrass and country music. They feature original and traditional songs with tunes performed on cello, fiddle, octave mandolin and banjo, paired with sweet vocal harmonies.
On Saturday, June 9th, Lang Termes returns to the Poolside Stage. Lang’s vocal style ranges from mellow folk ballads to growling boogie blues. His style of songwriting – both original music and lyrics – comes deep from the heart, or in some cases, bubbles up from his whimsical sense of irony. Lang’s selection of covers ranges from early country blues to the full gamut of contemporary classics. A few of his biggest influences include Muddy Waters, Woody Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, and Townes Van Zandt.
Tom Catmull is next up on Sunday, June 10th. Tom has been writing, recording, performing, eating and breathing music for nearly two decades. He likes telling stories, making acoustic and electric guitar sounds and using them to wrap words around a melody. The style of Tom’s music usually lands somewhere between the blurred lines of country, country swing, pop, and folk. His band, Last Resort, is an all original rock/pop four-piece.
On Friday, June 15th, Rod Morrison takes the stage. A Helena musician, Rod performs guitar-based acoustic tunes played and sung with feeling. He’ll bring classics you’ll recognize but don’t hear every day, mixed with an occasional original or two.
Check out Fox & Bones on Saturday, June 16th. This conceptual folk collaboration between American songwriters Sarah Vitort and Scott Gilmore is based in Portland. The duo combines lush two-part harmonies and a complex, heartwarming lyrical landscape with soft-spoken yet rich musical accompaniment. Live, they draw their audience in with their quirky banter and adorable onstage chemistry, creating – and inspiring in their fans – an archetype for true love in the modern world. Their debut album, The Remarkable Adventures Of, is available now.
New to Norris, Resonant Rogues visit the hot springs on Sunday, June 17th. The songwriting soul child of partners Sparrow and Keith J. Smith is based out of Asheville, NC. With influences that include Appalachian old-time, Balkan folk music, Swing Manouche, and early New Orleans Jazz, they take their favorite flavors and blend them into a delicious, danceable dish. Their latest record, Hands in the Dirt, is available now.
