One of Southwest Montana’s favorite outdoor venues opens its summer season with a full slate of performances supported by its scenic Paradise Valley backdrop. Pine Creek Lodge will bring acts of every genre to its space over the next several months. Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Pickin’ Pear are next up on June 7th with opening support by the Colorado College Bluegrass Ensemble at 6pm. They combine their non-traditional stylings and traditional instruments to create an original mix of modern American music. The duo takes the banjo and ukulele down the road of folk, rock, and bluegrass.
Performing on June 8th is Paul Lee Kupfer. He has a distinctive approach and his arrangements are inventive and fun. Restless touring and writing has allowed him to share the bill with some of his heroes and bring his music to many different kinds of people across the United States.
Returning June 9th is Jojo Hermann and Sam Holt with support by Dad Habit. Hermann’s style and lyricism draws influence from New Orleans greats Professor Longhair, Dr. John and Art Neville, among others. Sweet, lowdown and introspective, Holt writes rock songs that are heartfelt and poignant expressions of life experiences that reflect his southern roots.
Enjoy the talents of Emma & the Ledge on June 10th. The duo skillfully creates a sound that’s luminous and atmospheric, yet energizing enough to send an audience to their feet. Their music weaves together blues, alternative, rock, folk and independent styles utilizing a mix of acoustic and electric guitars.
June 14th sees the return of Chandler Huntley. He draws influence from Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, John Prine, Robert Earl Keen and other country greats, from the current and past.
The Young Dubliners are back June 15th with local help from Doublewide Dreams. After thirty years as one of the world’s leading Celtic rock bands, the boys return to Paradise with crowd favorites and cuts from their recent studio releases.
Montana’s own Laney Lou & the Bird Dogs bring a special album release show to Pine Creek with help from Pixie & the Partygrass Boys on June 16th. The band’s energetic Americana-folk infuses four-part harmonies, engaging songwriting and rock-n-roll drive into its modern approach to traditional folk music. The Bird Dogs are performing in support of their newly released album, Coyote.
Dead Sky take the stage for a June 17th performance. The local Grateful Dead tribute features members of Pinky & the Floyd, MOTH, Kelly Nicholson Band, Hooligans, Dead Yellers, SlomoJoe and more.
Returning to Southwest Montana on June 18th is Dustbowl Revival alongside opener Wes Urbaniak. The collective merges old school bluegrass, gospel, pre-war blues and the hot swing of New Orleans to form a spicy roots cocktail. Known for their roaring live sets, Dustbowl bravely brings together many styles of traditional American music.
Bozeman bluegrass band Moonlight Moonlight take the stage June 21st. The trio plays a jammy, up-tempo variety of bluegrass, combining multiple string instruments for a sound that is fun and energetic.
Check out local four-piece Counting Coup on June 22nd. With its rugged, rowdy and broken sound, the band draws audiences in with soulful leads and melodies while flattening the crowd with lyrics that range from gleeful to heart wrenchingly desolate. It’s a collaboration of joy, pain, suffering, understanding and plain old fun.
Jam rock band moe. front back-to-back performances to the Lodge on June 23rd and 24th. Hailed by American Songwriter for their “mind-bending musicality,” the band is treasured for their mesmerizing musical synergy, unfettered showmanship and smart, resonant songcraft. Their live performances are marked by eclectic wit, deep friendship and exploratory invention.
Rising country artist Margo Price is set for a June 25th show with opening support by Kelsey Waldon. In just three remarkable solo albums, the singer/songwriter has cemented herself as a force in American music and a generational talent. On her fourth full-length, Strays, a clear-eyed mission statement delivered in blistering rock and roll, she’s taking on substance abuse, self-image, abortion rights and orgasms. Musically extravagant but lyrically laser focused, the record tears into a broken world desperate for remedy.
Led Zeppelin tribute Zoso is back in Southwest Montana on June 28th. The group embodies Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones in their spirit, tightly wound talent and authenticity. Their live shows are not about simply playing the right notes, they are about aura and feeling, harkening back to the unique atmosphere Led Zeppelin created.
Bluegrass-skewing Americana project Railroad Earth brings the tuneage on June 29th. For over two decades, the band has captivated audiences with gleefully unpredictable live shows and eloquent and elevated studio output. Beyond tallying tens of millions of streams, the collective have earned widespread critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, Glide Magazine and NPR.
Independence Day weekend is set to feature The Fossils on June 30th, and Red Elvises on July 1st. Known around town for their authentic hippie music, the Fossils guarantee a rockin’ good time. The members have been acquainted for years and are connected by their love of music. With humorous lyrics and grooves that practically force you to dance, the Elvises’ “Siberian Surf Rock” is sure to entertain.
Also in Paradise Valley, Pine Creek presents its Brunch Live Music Series. The weekend offering regularly showcases regional musicians from 11am–1pm. Order some food and find a spot! Upcoming acts include: Shelly Besler & Tony Polecastro on June 10th, Benn & Abel June 11th, The Sleepless Elite June 17th, Cole Decker June 18th, Maggie Hickman June 24th, Peter King June 25th, Steph Yeager July 1st and Colin Burke on July 2nd.
