Famed local venue Pine Creek Lodge plays host to a number of shows for those looking to visit their favorite venue as the snowy season continues. Events have moved indoors but the music is as enjoyable as ever.
Matt Wallin & His Nervous Breakdown kick things off on January 4th. Frontman of His Nervous Breakdown tells stories about the trials and hardships of farm life and oil boomtowns, to starting a family and following your own path. His music paints musical pictures with writing that reflects the character of Corb Lund, Waylon Jennings and Vic Chestnutt. Wallin’s catalog hits on ethereal parts of human life: love, connections and regret, all interwoven into the fabric of his artistry. His sophomore album, Puppet Strings, released last year.
Enjoy a show by local four-piece Counting Coup on Jan. 10th. With its rugged, rowdy and broken sound, the band draws audiences in with soulful leads and melodies while flattening the crowd with lyrics that range from gleeful to heart wrenchingly desolate. It’s a collaboration of joy, pain, suffering, understanding and plain old fun. Their latest release, Shake the Trouble, is available now.
Jan. 17th sees the return of Lost Canyons. The indie rock band hang their hats on heartfelt lyricism, driving guitars and a great live show to boot. Building off a breakout year opening for the likes of Mat Kearney, Lil’ Smokies and Night Moves, the band is reaching new heights with their Montana sound.
Emma & the Ledge follow on Jan. 18th. The duo skillfully creates a sound that’s luminous and atmospheric, yet energizing enough to send an audience to their feet. Their music weaves together blues, alternative, rock, folk and independent styles utilizing a mix of acoustic and electric guitars.
Local tribute group 710 Ashbury follow with back-to-back shows on Jan. 24th and 25th. The Helena four-piece lays down all your classic Grateful Dead favorites with every spirited performance. Committed to preserving the legacy of the popular genre-skewing rock band, 710 features a talented group of veteran Montana musicians.
Late this month, MINT! perform on Jan. 31st. Five friends who met in the pursuit of jams were brought together through their genuine love of music. Throwing together improvised songs in a garage is how it all started, and the group now plays high-energy, progressive funk throughout Southwest Montana.
And looking to a new month, Aussie guitar virtuoso Joe Robinson returns to Southwest Montana with a February 1st show. A uniquely skilled musician, he is widely regarded as one of the world’s top fingerstyle soloists. He’s also an accomplished electric improviser, composer and songwriter. Robinson’s signature musical touch and ability to seamlessly blend these elements allows him to create a truly one of a kind sound that defies classification within any particular genre.
Advance tickets for these shows are available now, but space is limited. All music begins at 7pm. Please visit www.pinecreeklodgemontana.com to learn more about these and other upcoming off-season shows. •
