Another sunny season comes to a close at Pine Creek Lodge this month, an outdoor venue that allows local musicians and national acts to come together on the same stage in the name of incredible live music. If you haven’t made it over to Paradise Valley yet this summer, there’s still a long month of events to attend before they pack it up until next year! Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Check out a midweek set with The Bo Show on September 6th. The van-dwelling Montana musician plays solo and with fellow musicians from all over the country, sporting a constantly changing lineup of players and musical styles.
Band of Drifters performs with support from Big Ol’ on Sept. 7th. The group plays modern American roots music and encourage audiences to dance. Based mostly in Montana and Tennessee, the band also includes players from all over the country, keeping the music varied in arrangement, instrumentation and regional influences. The Drifters’ sets draw from country, folk and blues traditions with an emphasis on original songs, done in the old style.
Tribute group 710 Ashbury takes the stage on Sept. 8th. The Helena-based group lays down all your classic Grateful Dead favorites with every spirited performance.
Bozeman’s own Cactus Cuts are set for a Sept. 9th show alongside openers Abby Webster, Ryan Acker and Lee Henke of the Last Revel. The five-piece Americana folk band draws inspiration from the harmonious melodies of the Milk Carton Kids and the virtuosic guitar stylings of Doc Watson. The band weaves together intricate acoustic arrangements, compelling storytelling and lush vocal harmonies that are the perfect musical combination of modern bluegrass and old-time Americana.

Quenby and Dead Original warm up the crowd for Chicago-based Smells Like Nirvana on Sept. 13th. Composed of seasoned pros and die-hard fans, this live tribute to Nirvana is a haunting episode of grunge-filled angst and rock prowess played without click tracks or backing tracks – a rare trait in today’s contemporary musical landscape, the philosophy Nirvana lived by.
Enjoy a solo set by tunesmith Jay Gavin on Sept. 14th. He writes songs for fans of real country music. The singer/songwriter is known for his natural authenticity, catchy hooks, foot stompin’, autobiographical everyman songs and good timin’ live shows.
Wes Urbaniak & the Mountain Folk perform on Sept. 15th. The “musical love child of Tracy Chapman and Mumford & Sons,” the frontman makes noise on homemade guitars, beats on them with his hands, and tools and creates acoustic and amazing music. Urbaniak has been touring the country for years, now with the Mountain Folk, sharing their Montana music performed on locally crafted instruments from Urbaniak’s shop.
Visiting from Billings, Holland Dotson showcases her talents on Sept. 16th. With heavy influences from her Appalachian roots, she draws inspiration from artists like Tyler Childers, Colter Wall and Chris Stapleton to create a unique sound of familiar favorites.
Stomp your feet to the music of Walcrik on Sept. 20th. Blending roots, Americana, bluegrass and folk music, they’ll have you up and dancing one minute, then listening intently to the lyric-driven songwriting about life, love, loss and the American West.
Cole Decker tickles strings and performs for Lodge-goers on Sept. 21st. The Mississippi-born singer/songwriter pulls from his musical roots of old school country. He’s influenced by the likes of Waylon Jennings and newer artists including Chris Stapleton, Brent Cobb and Jason Isbell.
Take in a Sept. 22nd show by North Fork Crossing with opening support by Jampoke. Their genre resides somewhere in a strange untapped musical realm between traditional bluegrass, psychedelic rock, Americana and Folk. The quintet are drawn to bluegrass reaching a younger generation, priding themselves on their unique sound being the “evolution of string band music.”
A returning favorite, Chandler Huntley impresses with his Sept. 23rd set. With a Southern voice and Travis-picking guitar style, he draws influence from Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, John Prine, Robert Earl Keen and other country greats, from the current and past.
Taylor Burlage Trio entertains with a whimsical performance on Sept. 28th. The frontman’s songwriting takes on a texture reflective of the mountains he grew up in, using their power and imagery to craft songs that navigate life, loss, joys and heartbreak of the human condition. His debut album I Might Be Gone released in the spring.
Closing out a busy month of shows on Sept. 29th are Red NOT Chili Peppers with openers Emma & the Ledge. The band pays tribute to the ultimate funk rock quartet, a band that has transcended three decades of chart-topping success and developed one of the largest die-hard fan bases in the world. Expect a show featuring the hits and high energy performance that brought the Chili Peppers international acclaim. The Red NOTs offer a sincere devotion to that classic Chili Pepper sound fans have come to expect.
Also in Paradise Valley, Pine Creek presents its Brunch Live Music Series. The weekend offering regularly showcases regional musicians from 11am–1pm. Order some food and find a spot! Upcoming acts include: Ryan Acker Sept. 9th, Cole Decker Sept. 10th, Chandler Huntley Sept. 16th, Jess Atkins Sept. 17th, Shelly Besler & Tony Polecastro Sept. 23rd, Peter King Sept. 24th, Kailee Failla Sept. 30th and Steph Yeager on Oct. 1st. These shows are free of admission and open to the public.
