Montana State University’s College of Letters and Science will host a free public lecture about the economics of health insurance as part of its Distinguished Speakers Series on Thursday, March 5th.
Matthew Notowidigdo, an associate professor in the Department of Economics at Northwestern University, will present “What Does Health Insurance Do?” at 5pm in Barnard Hall, Room 103. Notowidigdo’s research has shown that health insurance benefits people who were previously uninsured as well as health care providers.
Notowidigdo is a research fellow at the Institute for Labor Studies, a faculty fellow at the Institute for Policy Research, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research and a consultant for the Boston Red Sox. His research focuses on a range of topics related to how public policy intersects with the economics of health care, where he has studied the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid expansions and medical bankruptcy. His research has been published in top economics journals.
The event is sponsored by the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics and is presented by the College of Letters and Science’s Distinguished Speakers Series. The series, which began in the spring of 2011, brings distinguished scholars to MSU to give a public talk and to meet with faculty and students in order to enrich the intellectual life on campus and enhance research connections.
