Music in the Mountains goes virtual with Kitchen Dwellers on July 23
Live music lovers will want to make sure and tune in on July 23 when the Kitchen Dwellers perform a full set for a full livestream Music in the Mountains concert presented by the Arts Council of Big Sky. The concert will be available for free on the Arts Council’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
The Arts Council, a nonprofit organization located in Big Sky, Montana, is well-known as a destination for live music during the summer. Its signature weekly free music series, Music in the Mountains, draws more than 30,000 people from late June to early September to its outdoor venue in the Big Sky Town Center park. Since starting in 2008, the series has featured such diverse acts as the Infamous Stringdusters, Orgone, Lukas Nelson, Lake Street Dive, DeadPhish Orchestra, Polyphonics, Fruition, Jason Isbell and many more.
In the near decade Kitchen Dwellers been together, the Bozeman-based four-piece has performed for thousands at Red Rocks, shared bills with the likes of Railroad Earth, The Infamous String Dusters, and Twiddle, graced festival stages from Northwest String Summit to WinterWonderGrass, and transcended traditional genre boundaries, blending virtuosic bluegrass wizardry with ecstatic rock and roll energy and adventurous psychedelia. With their spectacular new album, Muir Maid, the group has come fully into their own, seamlessly blending the past, present, and future of string band music to create their most daring and collaborative work yet.
Muir Maid follows Kitchen Dwellers’ acclaimed 2017 LP, ‘Ghost In The Bottle,’ which was produced by Leftover Salmon’s Andy Thorn and featured a slew of special guests, including Little Feat’s Bill Payne and Greensky Bluegrass’s Anders Beck. Tracks from the record racked up more than a million streams on Spotify and garnered rave reviews across the board, with The Huffington Post hailing the band as “a bluegrass phenomenon” and Relix praising the unique way the group’s songwriting “embrac[es] their love of electronica, metal…and everything in between.”
This is the second in a series of four free virtual concerts presented by the Arts Council, with two more slated over the rest of the summer. Montana bluegrass outfit Laney Lou and the Bird Dogs and will perform on August 13, and the final concert on September 3 features Dead Sky, an all-star Grateful Dead tribute act from Bozeman.
The virtual concerts are broadcasted live from the indoor stage at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center in Big Sky, using high-quality audio and visual production from Bozeman –based Jereco Studios—the same engineers that produce the sound and lights for the summer outdoor series. Several cameras have been installed in the theater, allowing for multiple angles, making for a professional, great-looking show.
