Music in the Mountains wraps with back-to-back tribute favorites
Finishing up another amazing summer of Music in the Mountains, the Arts Council of Big Sky will present one last pair of outdoor concerts, as well as its popular mountain sport film event, at Center Stage in Len Hill Park.
Closing out the event series are Tom Petty tribute The Waiting on September 2nd and Pinky & the Floyd saluting the catalog of Pink Floyd on Sept. 9th. The fifth annual Mountainfilm in Big Sky event caps the summer Sept. 10th–12th.
Bozeman-based roadhouse rock n’ roll band The Waiting celebrates the music of Tom Petty. Whether it’s one of his smash hits with the Heartbreakers, a sampling from his solo albums, or even a collaboration with the Traveling Wilburys, The Waiting runs the gamut, performing each tune with undeniable, fiery live energy and a devotion to showing each person in the crowd a good time.
Known for their performances of full albums, Pinky and the Floyd have fronted some legendary theatrical productions including “The Wall,” “The Division Bell” and “3 Different Ones” featuring Animals, Darkside and Wish You Were Here.
With this repertoire, it’s obvious the band has explored the material… but Pinky would agree that the biggest challenge has always been performing the material everyone knows and loves. The stuff that everyone hears on the radio… The big hits like “Comfortably Numb,” “Run Like Hell,” “Time” and “Money.” That’s the stuff people want to hear, but it’s also the stuff that people expect to hear in a certain way. It’s engrained in us as Pink Floyd fans, as concert-goers, and lovers of music.
Big Sky Town Center has been home to over a dozen total events this season, including the popular Thursday night concerts and “Bravo! Big Sky Classical Music Festival.” All are free and open to the public.
The family friendly events take place at Center Stage in Len Hill Park, one of the best outdoor venues in the state. The park opens at 6pm each week, and there will be food and beverage vendors (including alcohol) and an arts activity tent for kids. Music typically starts at 7:15pm, but please check the website for up to date details. These free community concerts have been a staple in Big Sky for more than 10 years, and this summer should add to a lengthy list of established artists that have thrilled Big Sky audiences every week.
