MSU fall choral concert comes to Reynolds mid-month
From MSU News Service
The choirs at Montana State University will give their first performance of the 2019-2020 season at 7:30pm Tuesday, October 15th, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
The University Chorus, with Lukas Graf conducting, will start the evening with “Psalm 150” by American composer Michael Trotta, to be followed by songs that hail the end of seasons by John Jacob Niles, Daniel Pederson, Aaron Copland and Johannes Brahms.
The Montanans, directed by Kirk Aamot, professor of music in the School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture, will sing a setting of the Langston Hughes poem, “New Moon” by composer Ricky Ian Gordon, who will be on campus to work with the choir. Gordon is in Bozeman for the Intermountain Opera Bozeman’s performance of his opera, “27,” based on Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas and their life at 27 Rue de Fleurus in Paris.
Aamot will also direct the University Chorale performing “Serenity” by Ola Gjeilo accompanied by Julia Cory, MSU cello professor. Marques Garrett’s arrangement of “Hold On” will end the evening.
Tickets for the concert at MSU are $10 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door.
Reynolds Recital Hall is located in Howard Hall, across the street from the MSU Duck Pond. •
