Bozeman’s Museum of the Rockies is once again offering its educational and visually stunning Season of Light in the Taylor Planetarium as 2023 draws to a close.
From Yule logs to Christmas trees and luminaries to Santa Claus, the winter solstice is a time for celebrating the light. Take part in a journey through the many holiday traditions that have been passed down through the centuries and learn how they’ve helped to make the winter season more festive.
Season of Light shows daily at 1pm and 3pm, with an additional showing at 11am on Saturdays and Sundays, through December 31st. These screenings are included with Museum admission or membership. Please note: the Museum will close at 3pm on Dec. 24th and will be closed on Christmas Day.
New this year, MOR will host the inaugural “Victorian Holiday” in enhancement of limited, after hours Season of Light viewings on Friday and Saturday, December 8th–9th and 15th–16th. All will begin at 6pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 5-17 and free for younger children.
Transport yourself back to the holiday season of 1890s Montana with the Season of Light experience in the Taylor Planetarium. Following the show, join the 1890s carolers as they lead you to the Tinsley House, which will be decorated in Victorian holiday style. Discover the unique ways Montana’s French Canadian and Irish communities celebrated the season, and join in on authentic caroling from the period. Make paper ornaments and holiday cards, and indulge in hot chocolate and holiday treats. Perfect for the whole family!
Also on display at MOR are exhibits Unbridled Spirit: The Photography of Barbara Van Cleve and Zoo in You: The Human Microbiome. Both are included with Museum admission or membership. The exhibits will be on view through Jan. 7th. And coming in the new year – Conserving America’s Wildlands: The Vision of Ted Turner opens Jan. 27th with Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids: Mythic Creatures to follow in the spring.
