Unveiling the first in its 2026 performance series, Montana Chamber Music Society will feature the talents of Xavier Foley on Friday, January 30th. The concert will be held at Reynolds Recital Hall on the Montana State University campus. Music begins at 7:30pm.
A trailblazing artist, Foley is transforming the role of the double bass in 21st-century music. Equally acclaimed as a virtuoso performer and composer, he is one of a rare group of instrumentalists whose own compositions form the heart of his programs.
With jaw-dropping technique, soulful expression and a bold artistic vision, Foley brings new life to an instrument rarely heard center stage. Committed to expanding the repertoire for solo double bass and chamber ensembles, his diverse catalog of compositions explores the instrument’s full range of expressive and technical possibilities.

Communicating his virtuosity and passion for music on the double bass – rare for it to be presented as a solo instrument, Foley is the winner of a prestigious 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, recognized on New York WQXR’s “19 for 19” Artists to Watch list, and featured on PBS Thirteen’s NYC-ARTs.
Foley’s regional tour will include “An Intimate Evening” at Bozeman’s Live from the Divide on Jan. 29th at 6:30pm and a free rural concert at the Danforth Museum of Art in Livingston on Jan. 31st at 2pm. Find ticketing information for these performances through the host website.
Admission to all regular Montana Chamber Music Society performances is $35 for adults, $25 for seniors, and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased at www.montanachambermusicsociety.org. These are also available at the door, depending on availability. Net proceeds from these programs support MCMS’s mission to present great chamber music performances throughout Montana year-round. •
