In collaboration with Baroque Music Montana, chamber choir Roots in the Sky will present a trio of upcoming concerts in celebration of the holiday season. Performances of The Walking Sun will take place December 15th–17th. It will premiere at Bozeman’s Hope Lutheran Church on Friday at 7:30pm, followed by a Saturday show at Big Sky Chapel at 7:30pm, then closing with a 2pm Sunday matinee at Holy Rosary Church in Bozeman.
The holiday program will draw relationships between 21st century music and that of the German Baroque. Beginning with a set of Lutheran Advent cantatas and culminating with a contemporary cantata based on plays by the Greek philosopher Seneca, performers will welcome the holiday season in style and bring together two of Montana’s most exciting performing arts organizations.
The program will include: O sußer Jesu Christ, SWV 405 by Heinrich Schütz; Das neugebornen Kindelein, BuxWV 13 by Dieterich Buxtehude; Nun komm der heiden Heiland, BWV 61 by J.S. Bach; Cradle Song, The New-Yeres Gift and Heigh Ho Holiday by Anthony Holborne; and The Waking Sun by Kile Smith.
Advance tickets for The Walking Sun are $20 for adults and $10 for students at www.rootsinthesky.org. Visit the host website to learn more about the project and for details about future performances.
Roots in the Sky works to unite the best vocal artists, from a multitude of backgrounds, through the presentation of historical and contemporary choral music in the greater Gallatin Valley of Montana. The use of historical instruments and referencing original manuscripts, iconography, and historical writing fuels Baroque Music Montana’s commitment to the music and inspires fresh interpretation. •
