Live sees Southern goth of Lincoln Durham, rocker Jonathan Tyleron Wednesday, September 12th at 9pm
Live From The Divide continues intimate performances this summer, celebrating the lineage and contemporary voice of the American Roots singer/songwriter. Here’s a look at just a few of the upcoming acts.
Lincoln Durham follows with a performance on Tuesday, September 11th at 9pm. Tickets are $25 plus fees. Doors at 8pm.
Armed with old bastardized mid-century guitars, hand-me-down fiddles and banjos, homemade contraptions with just enough tension on a string to be considered an instrument and any random percussive item he can get his hands or feet on, Durham is a Southern gothic, psycho-blues revival-punk one man band with a heavy-amped edge, preaching the gospel of some new kind of depraved music. With driving guttural beats backboning various growling stringed instruments Durham gives birth to a sound that transcends genres with his dark, poetic and raw writing style telling tales E.A. Poe would have been proud of.
Jonathan Tyler is next up on Wednesday, September 12th at 9pm. Tickets are $25 plus fees. Doors at 8pm.
Jonathan Tyler did the rock star thing. He played Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Hangout Fest and the Voodoo Experience. He performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and toured alongside AC/DC, ZZ Top, The Black Crowes and Kid Rock. His 2010 LP Pardon Me for Atlantic Records with backing band The Northern Lights reached No. 8 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. It was everything he thought he’d wanted. It was everything he’d signed up for. Ultimately, it wasn’t what would satisfy him. These days, Tyler really does come off as a changed man – in person and on record alike. He’s more introspective, more focused. Holy Smokes, his first solo release, finds Tyler shed of major-label constraints, removed from the guard of his Northern Lights backing band and bearing his soul as a songwriter who’s seen the top of the mountain and now seeks a different kind of climb, one filled less with flash and more with substance. The album’s an open look into who Tyler is at this very moment and, most of all, who he feels he’s always really been.
Looking ahead, Seafoam Green brings a performance to the Live studio on Friday, September 21st at 9pm. Tickets are $20 plus fees. Doors at 8pm.
Fronted by Dublin-born singer/songwriter Dave O’Grady, the psych/folk outfit is touring in continued support of its debut album, Topanga Mansion. Produced by Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson, the album ranges from O’Grady’s influences including the American roots music he loves so well in groups like The Band, as well as his singer/songwriter heroes in guys like Foy Vance and John Martyn.
