It’s been a season to remember at Pine Creek Lodge, an outdoor venue that allows local musicians and national acts to come together on the same stage in the name of incredible live music. If you haven’t made it over to Paradise Valley yet this summer, there’s still a long month of events to attend before they pack it up until next year! Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Check out Ryan Acker on Sept. 7th. As songwriter and multi-instrumentalist for the Last Revel, Acker has made a lasting impression on the contemporary folk and bluegrass community. On his second solo record, Heavy Horns, he steps out to expand on his creative process, exploring the full spectrum of the americana soundscapes with thoughtful and textured songwriting and a catalog of instrumental detail. This show is free of admission.
Don’t miss Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country with opening support by the Dusty Pockets on Sept 8th. The Tennessee native has distilled life lessons into his debut album, A Young Man’s Country. Recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium in a mere two days and produced by guitar-ace Robben Ford, the record weaves outlaw country, Grateful Dead-style Americana, and first-rate songwriting into a singular form Donato calls “21st-century cosmic country.” Advance tickets are $25.
Rescheduled from earlier this summer, Leftover Salmon will finally take the stage Sept. 9th and 10th. The veteran group continues to shape the Jamgrass landscape where bands schooled in the traditional rules of bluegrass can push songs in new, psychedelic directions. Brand New Good Old Days, their latest full-length, is out now. Advance tickets are $40 or $50 day of show. Two-night passes are also available for $70. Previously purchased tickets will be honored.
Catch a midweek show by John Hewitt on Sept. 14th. With a voice and pen that echoes the phrases of Dylan, the delivery of Van Morrison and the coolness of Tom Petty, Hewitt is a songwriting force. As a writer he invokes the abstract imagery of the Beat Poets and generation with catchy melodies intertwined. This show is free of admission.
Fruition returns to Montana with a Sept. 16th performance at Pine Creek. The band’s latest studio album, Broken at the Break of Day, may be hard to categorize, yet feels complete because of their dedication to honesty as well as harmony. Influenced equally by acoustic music and rock n’ roll, the Portland-based band has opened shows for the Wood Brothers, Greensky Bluegrass and Jack Johnson, also appearing at music festivals across the country. Advance tickets are $30 or $35 day of.
Enjoy a performance by Shelly Besler and Tony Polecastro on Sept. 21st. Shelly is a Livingston based singer/songwriter who counts Patty Griffith, Wilco and Katie Herzig among her influences. Tony is a musical wonder on the dobro and joins Shelly on vocals. This show is free of admission.
Blake Brightman returns to Pine Creek on Sept. 21st. The singer/songwriter’s stylings fall somewhere between country western and Mississippi blues, with her own modern spin. She fronts a five-piece of the same name. This show is free of admission.
Enjoy the talents of Emma & the Ledge on Sept. 24th. The duo skillfully creates a sound that’s luminous and atmospheric, yet energizing enough to send an audience to their feet. Their music weaves together blues, alternative, rock, folk and independent styles utilizing a mix of acoustic and electric guitars. This show is free of admission.
Benn & Abel take over on Sept. 28th. The new age Americana band from Bozeman plays a mixture of originals and covers, with a new album in the works. This show is free of admission.
On Sept. 29th, Chandler Huntley takes the stage for a one-man show. He draws influence from Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, John Prine, Robert Earl Keen and other country greats, from the current and past. This show is free of admission.
Singer/songwriter Hannah Jo Lally closes out the month on Sept. 30th. A regular performer in Southwest Montana, enjoy an evening of country cuts and distinctive originals. This show is free of admission.
