HRDC’s Community Action Speaker Series will begin again on Tuesday, November 1st with a presentation on the vital role of Nutrition in our Children and Senior Populations. The presentation will begin at 7pm at HRDC’s Community Café, 302 North 7th Ave., in Bozeman. Guests are invited to enjoy a meal at the Café prior to the presentation (Café opens at 5pm). Katie Bark, Project Director for the Montana Team Nutrition Program located at Montana State University, will provide insight into the role nutrition plays in childhood development and maintaining good health in our senior population. Bark will provide an overview of initiatives statewide and within our community. Bark is a licensed registered dietitian passionate about increasing easy access to healthy foods for kids and adults. Bark and her team work with child nutrition staff, educators, and community members to create school environments that make the healthy choice the easy choice.
They also support schools in procuring and serving locally grown foods, teach children nutrition education, including gardening, and effective ways to promote nutrient rich school meals and energizing snacks. Bark serves on two statewide coalitions that help to end hunger in Montana—the Food Security Council of the Montana Food Bank Network and the Montana Partnership to End Childhood Hunger. HRDC’s Food and Nutrition Director Marjorie Hennessy will be on hand to answer questions regarding HRDC’s efforts to meet the nutritional needs of our community. The speaker series mission is to increase education, community awareness, and advocacy in regard to helping those in need. The speaker series events will spotlight people and organizations that inspire human service, sustainable living, and a better community for all, particularly those facing poverty. The Community Action Speaker Series will run through May 2017. A complete list of speakers and topics can be found at www.thehrdc.org/.
