Hop aboard The Polar Express during special holiday screening

The Livingston Film Series is delighted to present a special free screening of holiday family favorite The Polar Express at 7pm on Saturday, December 22nd at the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis and based on children’s author Chris Van Allsburg’s modern holiday classic of the same name, The Polar Express follows Billy (Hayden McFarland), who longs to believe in Santa Claus but finds it quite difficult to do so in the face of his family’s dogged insistence that all of it, from the North Pole, to the elves, to the man himself – is just a myth. Everything changes on Christmas Eve, when a mysterious train visits Billy in the middle of the night, promising to take him and a group of other children to the North Pole for a visit with Santa. The train’s conductor (Tom Hanks) and passengers help turn Billy’s crisis of faith into a journey of self-discovery.
This festive annual tradition will take place in the Dulcie Theatre at the Shane Center. Believe tickets and bells for the first 100 kids – candy canes for all! Attendees are encouraged to wear pajamas if they’re so inclined.
Looking to the new year, acclaimed documentary Science Fair will screen on Tuesday, January 8th at 7pm.
Hailed by critics as “immensely likeable,” “brilliant and quirky” and an “ode to the teenage science geeks on whom our future depends,” and winner of the audience award at Sundance and SXSW, National Geographic Documentary Films’ Science Fair follows nine high school students from around the globe as they navigate rivalries, setbacks and, of course, hormones, on their journey to compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair. As 1,700 of the smartest, quirkiest teens from 78 different countries face off, only one will be named Best in Fair.
The film, from Fusion and Muck Media and directed by the duPont Award-winning and Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaking team of Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster, offers a front seat to the victories, defeats and motivations of an incredible group of young men and women who are on a path to change their lives, and the world, through science.
Now in its fourth season, the Livingston Film Series presents a variety of independent features, documentaries, local films, and special screenings on the second Tuesday of every month in the Dulcie Theatre at the Sane Lalani Center for the Arts.
