Groove-based rock trio KALO hits Chico ahead of annual Block Party
An area favorite among local soakers, Chico Hot Springs also serves as the perfect outset for river adventures and trips into Yellowstone. And when the sun sets on the day’s activity of choice, head into the Saloon for fantastic live entertainment every weekend. Here’s a look at who’s headed to the Paradise Valley watering hole.
BlackWater Band bring the noise on Friday and Saturday, August 2nd and 3rd. The rock n’ roll variety group will have you off your feet and on the dancefloor in no time, so order a drink at the bar and get that liquid motivation flowing!
KALO fronts a Sunday show on August 4th at 8pm. The trio is groovesome rhythm and blues meets fiery rock n’ roll. KALO defies convention, channeling power trios like The Police, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Rush or Cream. Much in the vein of Led Zeppelin, the band fuses blues-influenced songs with rock and roll anthems and electric shows. With only a bass, guitar and drums, the band delivers powerful stage performances and an unparalleled sound.
The original country-rock style of Bozeman’s Dead Yellers brings a true Montana sound to each and every performance, including their shows at Chico on Friday and Saturday, August 9th and 10th. Founded by frontman Peter King, the band’s music follows a theme of courage in the face of adversity delivered in an upbeat, western roots format, ultimately leaving the audience feeling hopeful and happy. Sometimes joined by fiddle, pedal steel, bass, and harmonica, this group always brings something unique to their shows, with each sounding different than the last.
Following back-to-back sets by the Helena Blues Project on August 16th and 17th, Chico gears up for its 21st Annual Neighborhood Block Party featuring Montana Rose on Sunday, August 18th. The BBQ and beer tent opens at 5pm, followed by the music and street dance at 6pm. With eight recordings to their credit, Montana Rose has come to embody the spirit of Americana. It’s a harmonious union of the most recognizable genres of American music blended into a unique western style. Forged in the crucible of cowboy bars throughout the Rocky Mountain West, Montana Rose is comprised of front woman Claudia Williams, guitarist Bill Dwyer, bassist Todd Silas, and Rick Philipp holding the groove.
Chico Saloon music begins at 9pm, unless otherwise noted. Chico Hot Springs is located in Pray, 20 miles south of Livingston. Come sip, soak, and swing! For more information, visit www.chicohotsprings.com. •
