Ghostbusters screens outside Story Mansion & more BFS titles
Gather your friends, flashlights and blankets and head to Story Mansion Park for Bozeman’s FREE outdoor summer film event, “Story Under the Stars,” on Saturday, August 20th. Returning to the beautiful grounds for its 13th season, this year’s family-friendly presentation is the original (and best!) Ghostbusters, presented on the mighty 40-foot screen!
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson lead the hilarious cast as the “Ghostbusters,” spirit-exterminators who fearlessly take on the other-worldly evil spirits infiltrating Manhattan, whether it manifests itself as wicked green slime or an ancient tyrant back from the dead to take over the world. The spooktacularly successful 1984 film captured the imagination of audiences around the world and redefined the action-comedy genre in the process. Rated PG, the film runs 105 minutes.
Food trucks and ice cream will be available, and kids’ activities begin at 7pm with a slime-making station! Other activities include guided tours of the Story Mansion and a presentation from the Extreme History Project entitled “Ghosts of Bozeman’s Past.” Movie and popcorn begins at dusk.

The next public film screening at the Ellen is the acclaimed Memoria starring Tilda Swinton on Tuesday, August 23rd. From the extraordinary mind of Palme D’or-winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul comes a bewildering drama about a Scottish woman (Swinton), who, after hearing a loud ‘bang’ at daybreak, begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome while traversing the jungles of Colombia.
Empire Magazine said of the film, “Designed and deserving to be seen big and loud, Memoria is a hypnotic, unquantifiable, occasionally inpenetrable sonic odyssey from a unique cinematic voice.” Rated PG with a runtime of 136 minutes.
Looking to Tuesday, September 6th, volcanic documentary Fire of Love screens at the Ellen. Katia and Maurice Krafft loved two things – each other and volcanoes. For two decades, the daring French volcanologist couple roamed the planet, chasing eruptions and documenting their discoveries. Ultimately, they lost their lives in a 1991 volcanic explosion, leaving a legacy that forever enriched our knowledge of the natural world. Director Sara Dosa and the filmmaking team fashion a lyrical celebration of the intrepid scientists’ spirit of adventure, drawing from the Kraffts’ spectacular archive.
“It is a love poem to these brave scientists as well as the natural wonders of the world we need to protect,” wrote a reviewer for the San Jose Mercury News. Not rated with a runtime of 93 minutes.
Memoria and Fire of Love screen at 7:30pm at the Ellen Theatre. Reserved tickets are $9.25–$9.75 (plus fees) and available at www.theellentheatre.org, by calling (406) 585-5885, or by visiting the Ellen box office. Wine, beer and concessions will be available in the lobby prior to the screening. CC devices available.
