One of the area’s most storied live music venues, the Filling Station brings in locally celebrated musicians and traveling acts. The concerts showcase artists from a variety of genres, welcoming diverse audiences to the north Bozeman space with performances held throughout the week. Read on for highlights from the end-of-year calendar.
Bozeman’s soul, funk and hip-hoppers STiLGONE visit the Filler on Dec. 16th. The crew features frontman Symon Palmer, guitarist Chris Cowan, Carl Hansen on bass and drummer Ezra Bowman. Slip Bamboozle and Squirrel Gravy open at 9pm.
Returning to the stage after a lengthy hiatus, Wind & the Willows are back with a brand new lineup on Dec. 17th. Soak to the sounds of whimsical harmonies, strings and percussion as they highlight cuts from their new release, Chamomile & Kerosene. Benn & Abel return to the Filler as opening support at 9pm.
Following a break for the holidays, the Filler stage resumes its lineup with SpeKAtlaS on Dec. 29th at 9pm. The group’s heavy sound is influenced by punk, metal, garage and progressive rock. They have an eclectic style that comes as a result of the “musical chairs” they play on stage, where all band members contribute on multiple instruments.
Enjoy an evening of salsa dancing to the sounds of John Roberts y Pan Blanco on Dec. 30th at 9pm. Featuring vocals in Spanish, English and Portuguese, the group melds high-energy Funk, African and Latin grooves with soulful instrumental solos aimed at sharing musical and cultural diversity with its audiences.
And finally, ring in the New Year with Wes Urbaniak & the Mountain Folk on Dec. 31st at 10pm. The “musical love child of Tracy Chapman and Mumford & Sons,” the frontman makes noise on homemade guitars, beats on them with his hands, and tools and creates acoustic and amazing music. Urbaniak has been touring the country for years, now with the Mountain Folk, sharing their Montana music performed on locally crafted instruments from Urbaniak’s shop.
