Delivering the next in its 2024-25 performance series, Montana Chamber Music Society will present The Westerlies on Friday, February 28th. The concert will be held at Reynolds Recital Hall on the Montana State University campus. Music begins at 7:30pm.
The Westerlies, “an arty quartet… mixing ideas from jazz, new classical, and Appalachian folk” (New York Times) are a New York-based brass quartet comprised of Riley Mulherkar and Chloe Rowlands on trumpet, and Andy Clausen and Addison Maye-Saxon on trombone. From Carnegie Hall to Coachella, The Westerlies navigate a wide array of venues and projects with the precision of a string quartet, the audacity of a rock band, and the charm of a family sing-along.
Since their inception, the ensemble has produced ten critically acclaimed albums of genre-defying music. The 2023 release of their fifth studio album, entitled Move, features music of new music icons Caroline Shaw and Nico Muhly, on the ensemble’s in-house record label. Sought-after collaborators, The Westerlies are featured on recordings by Fleet Foxes, Big Red Machine, Common, Theo Bleckmann, Aoife O’Donovan and Conrad Tao.
The trio’s regional tour will include “An Intimate Evening of Music & Conversations” at 6:30pm on Feb. 27th at Bozeman’s Feed Café and a rural concert on March 1st at Whitehall’s Star Theater beginning at 2pm. Find additional details and ticketing information through the host website.
Admission to all regular Montana Chamber Music Society performances is $35 for adults, $25 for seniors, and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased at www.montanachambermusicsociety.org. These are also available at the door, depending on availability. Net proceeds from these programs support MCMS’s mission to present great chamber music performances throughout Montana year-round. •
