Film classics light up Ellen silver screen in April
The Ellen Theatre, a Downtown Bozeman institution, is your source for some of the area’s best big screen entertainment and stage performances. It also houses some great musical acts, both local and those coming through town. Here’s a look at what’s coming up.
Friday the 13th of April means fright night with Alfred Hitchcock’s thrilling classic, Vertigo! Starring James Stewart and Kim Novak, Vertigo is a romantic story of obsession, manipulation and fear. A detective is compelled to retire from the police force after his fear of heights gets the best of him. When he’s hired privately, the seemingly simple assignment leads to confusion, lies, deception, unanswered questions and, of course, a mysterious woman. Tickets are only $5. Rated PG, Vertigo runs 129 minutes and screens at 7:30pm. The evening also features a screening of the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode, “Revenge.”
On Sunday, April 15th, another FREE Family Movie lights up Ellen’s silver screen with the animated musical action comedy Mulan. Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the film received nominations for both an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Score, in addition to winning the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature. No ticket is needed, just show up! Seating is first come, first served. The film begins at 2pm and runs 1 hour, 28 minutes. Rated PG.
Looking ahead, screening Sunday, April 29th at 2pm, The Paleface is a 1948 comedy Western starring Bob Hope as dentist “Painless Potter” and Jane Russell as Calamity Jane. Potter is of questionable competence and a certified coward, finding himself tangled up in the dangerous business of fighting crime when he falls for Calamity Jane. All seats are $5. The Paleface runs 1 hour, 32 minutes.
Wine, beer, and other refreshments will be sold in the lobby beginning one hour before all showtimes. Ticketing and further information about these and other upcoming events is available at www.theellentheatre.com.
