Former Bozeman Hawk multi-sport athlete Averie Collins is doing big things at the collegiate level for the Washington State women’s soccer team.
Collins was recently named the PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Week after leading the No. 17 ranked Cougars (4-0-0) to a 1-0 victory over Gonzaga recently. The goal was Collins’ team-leading fourth of the year for the ‘Cougs. She scored a pair of goals in Washington State’s previous game, a 6-3 victory over James Madison.
Collins’ goal came just nine seconds into extra time after she stole the opening pass and raced toward the goal before unleashing a laser from 22 yards out that found the back of the net.
This was Averie Collins’ first Offensive Player of the Week award for the Cougars, but her second selection in her career. She previously earned Offensive Player of the Week accolades back in 2016 while playing for Stanford after scoring a game-winner versus Oregon State.
This is Collins’ first season in Pullman after joining the Cougars as a Grad Transfer from Stanford. At Stanford, Collins was a part of three straight PAC-12 championships, and the Cardinal also won the 2017 national championship during her junior season. Collins’ finished her career with the Cardinal having scored 10 goals with five assists. She graduated from Stanford with a degree in Management Science and Engineering in the spring of 2019, and is currently enrolled in the Master of Business Administration program at WSU.
