It may still be festival season, but there are plenty of venues to enjoy indoor shows this time of year. The Filling Station brings in locally celebrated musicians and traveling acts. The concerts showcase artists from a variety of genres, welcoming diverse audiences to the north Bozeman space with performances held throughout the week.
The month opens with the 2nd annual Jerry Garcia Birthday Bash featuring the music of Roadrunner at 9pm on August 1st. Featuring guitarist Tyler James, Andrew Miscoe on keys, drummer Bob Johnson and bassist Max Eaton, the foursome brings the music of the Garcia to life. The evening will also feature special sets by Mike Beck, Jesse Atkins and Ella Cole.
Following on Aug. 3rd is National Park Radio with opening support by Jacob Rountree at 9pm. Emotional, gut-wrenching, but still incredibly hopeful, their music reverberates important themes about life, love and difficult choices, all while echoing the enduring beauty of the band’s deep-seated roots in the Ozark Mountains. The band offers the indie folk world an outstanding blend of incisive songwriting and organic Americana charm, alongside a heritage in genuine mountain music.

Enjoy a special evening of exotic eats and live music with Jonny Wayne’s Acoustic Cuisine on Aug. 4th beginning at 6pm. The frontman of Jon Wayne & the Pain will serve up tasty cuisine inspired by his travels in Asia, also sharing his music and stories from the stage. This is an intimate, seated show with a homestyle Thai dinner served at 6pm followed by a live acoustic performance.
Cave Girl kicks things off for Sausalito Ferry on Aug. 5th at 9pm. The Bozeman band performs greasy, improvisational blues, rock, funk and beyond.
Mark Mackay & Friends front the “Rock for the River” benefit show on Aug. 11th at 7pm. A rock and roll heart, country roots and spellbinding songcraft: the recording and performing artist has left his boot prints on stages like Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium to Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. As a headliner, a festival act, or highlighting bills across the country with an array of performers – including Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton and Eli Young Band, plus rockers like REO Speedwagon, Night Ranger and 38 Special – Mackay captivates audiences with fretboard mastery and memorable hooks.
Oregon’s high energy, multi-genre Spunj take the stage Aug. 12th with opening support by StiLGONE at 9pm. Using their diverse musical backgrounds and tastes, Spunj believes in making their live shows not just a musical performance, but an experience. The band incorporates classic songwriting with sections of improvisation to seamlessly weave from genre to genre while keeping the energy high and always danceable.
Montana based hip-hop duo Filth & Foul are set for an Aug. 13th show starting at 8pm. Known as “The Original 406ers,” emcees Contact and Nickel B perform music that can be described as raw hip-hop in the purest form, relying on natural rhyme skills instead of watered down fraudulent gimmicks.
Come Back K take the stage Aug. 18th at 9pm. The Bozeman indie rock band recently released a pair of singles – “Same Old Person” and “See Your Face” – ahead of their upcoming album release.
Bubba Fett warm up the crowd for H.E.R.B on Aug. 19th at 9pm. Enjoy a night of homegrown Montana music with these two local acts.
Check out Thrown Out Bones on Aug. 23rd at 8pm. They perform a unique, multi-genre musical language that slides from jazz to funk to rock to psychedelic jam breakdowns. On stage, the joy they have playing together is infectious and electric, manifesting their signature spontaneity. The band rides the electricity of a live crowd and encourages fans to drive what each show looks and sounds like.
Eccentric Portland-based trio Sweet n’ Juicy take the stage Aug. 24th at 8pm. Their music is often compared to Parliament Funkadelic, The Talking Heads and Ween, although they once got Flight of the Conchords and Vulfpeck on the same show. Expect to hear everything from Gershwin to disco.
Performing on Aug. 25th is Sorryimolive at 9pm. The local singer/songwriter is known for her mix of R&B and hip-hop, adding some welcome texture to the Bozeman live music scene.
Minneapolis-based Friend Dog visit the Filler on Aug. 26th with opener Abby Webster at 9pm. Their unique Americana sound combines soulfully rugged vocals with a heavy-hitting rhythm section and incredibly vulnerable lyrics. All that paired with catchy melodies and an honest high-energy delivery will trick you into smiling and crying all at once.
